MENA wants USD200bn investment in renewable sector

(MENAFN) The MENA region is aiming an unprecedented program in order to develop renewable energy, with more than 67GW of clean projects at different stages of the design and study stage.

The region predicts that this will need investment upwards of USD200bn, in addition to the expansion and upgrading of recent networks to ease the extra capacity.

However, the Mideast has been slow to adopt renewable energy, while this has started to change over the past five years.

In 2013, the UAE emirate of Abu Dhabi commissioned the region"s first utility scale solar plant, 100MW Shams 1 concentrated solar power plant.
