Davis Cup: Qatar beat Malaysia

Colombo: Qatar's tennis team took a step forwards to qualify for the second Asian Oceania 2018 in the Davis Cup men's tennis tournament after beating Malaysia 2-0 on Friday in the Asian Oceanic Group 3, currently hosted by Sri Lanka.
In the first match of the singles competition, Jabor Al Mutawa defeated his Malaysian rival Hao Sheng Kwai 2 sets against one, while Mubarak Shannan won the second match after Malaysian rival Mohammed Marzuki withdrew in the first set.
In the beginning of the tournament, The Qatari team defeated UAE 2-1 and then managed to easily beat Turkmenistan 2-0. The team lost for Lebanon 0-2 in the third meeting.
With these results, Qatar are second to Lebanon in Group B. The Lebanese team, won all of their matches.
The Qatari Team was facing the leaders of Group A, Sri Lanka, yesterday to decide the qualified team for the second Asian Oceania 2018 in the Davis Cup men's tennis tournament.
Vice-Chairman of the National Tennis Teams Committee and head of Qatari Team mission to Sri Lanka Ibrahim Al Khulaifi expressed his delight with this victory. He pointed out that this result has been positively reflected on the technical, physical and moral situation of the team especially after reaching the final of this tournament.
