Oman- India's HCG Group to open IVF centre, specialised lab in 2018

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- HealthCare Global Enterprises (HCG), one of India's best known specialist in cancer and fertility care, will open an In-Vitro-Fertilisation (IVF) centre and a clinical reference lab in Oman next year.

The group is also exploring the possibility to set up a cancer care centre in Oman, a first-of-its-kind facility in the private sector.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Dr B S Ajaikumar, chairman and CEO of HCG Group said, 'As a first step, HCG has joined forces with Gruppoexcel Holding Inc in developing the groundwork for exploring this unique concept in the sultanate.'

He said that a 'Letter of Intent' has been signed by the two parties to this effect. 'Our group has ambitious plans for Oman as part of the wider push into the Gulf and the Middle East region. This is after our Africa foray which was an investment in the largest cancer care hospital in the private sector in Nairobi, Kenya.'

HCG will set up the IVF centre through its group company Milann, one of India's leading fertility treatment service providers.

With four fertility centres in India, Milann offers comprehensive reproductive medicine services including assisted reproduction, gynaecological endoscopy and fertility preservation. 'We get many patients from Oman. Our purpose is to make the treatment accessible and affordable. Our focus is on value-based medicine.'

Dr Ajaikumar said that the cancer centre in Oman will save patients the time and hassle of travelling. 'It will cover the whole region. Patients from places like Zanzibar and Yemen too will benefit, besides other neighbouring countries.

'I have visited the Oman Cancer Association which has good facilities. We are in talks with the government and OCA to see how we can bring in high-end cancer treatment in the private sector.'

Dr Ajaikumar said that through HCG's group company Triesta Lifesciences the laboratory with a specific focus on oncology will be opened. 'This lab will be ready by next year. Setting up the cancer care centre will take a minimum of two years, but the IVF clinic and the lab will take (say) six months to be ready and operational.'

HCG is ranked as the largest provider of cancer care treatment services in South Asia with a network spanning of over 19 facilities and at least another ten centres in various stages of development.

The rapidly expanding oncology-centric healthcare services chain was founded in 2003 by the globally-renowned 'doctorpreneur', Dr Ajaikumar, with over 40 years of experience as an oncologist. He completed his fellowship in radiation and medical oncology from the MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.

HCG Group has been instrumental in introducing high-end technologies like Cyberknife and Truebeam. It also brought in advanced bone marrow transplant therapies as well as molecular imaging.

HCG Group is also focusing on the in-country value programme of the Omani government. Dr Ajaikumar also discussed the training needs among local talents and how HCG can play a vital role in crucial areas of oncology, IVF and high-end laboratory facilities. 'Do not fear the disease, but lead a healthy lifestyle,' is his message to people in Oman.
