Jordan, Iraq discuss opening of Turaibil border crossing


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, July 19 (Petra)--The army chiefs of both Jordan and Iraq on Wednesday discussed mechanism of opening the Turaibil border crossing between Jordan and Iraq for international trade.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. General Mahmoud Abdul Halim Freihat said in a joint press conference with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Iraqi Army Gen. Othman Ghanmi in Baghdad on Wednesday, that Jordan was ready to provide intelligence information to the Iraqi side to secure the international highway that links Iraq with Jordan.

"We are confident of the ability and determination of the Iraqi forces to liberate Iraqi lands and drive Daesh from Iraq," he said, adding that progress has been achieved with regard to opening the highway between the two countries.

Gen. Ghanmi praised the role played by Jordan in the war against terrorism, and the support it provided to the Iraqi forces to control the borders.
