Oman 4x400m relay team disappoints


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman had to be content with just a bronze medal at the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships, which concluded in the eastern Indian city of Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

The only bronze had came through Ahmed al Saadi, who came third in the 400m race on Friday. On Sunday night, there were high hopes from Saadi and his teammates, Mohammed Obaid, Salah al Ajmi and Othman al Busaidi, in the 4x400m relay final but the quartet disappointed as they finished fifth with a time of 3m06.79 seconds. Hosts India won the gold in a time of 3m:02.92s while Sri Lanka took the silver and Thailand settled for a bronze.

Earlier in the morning, Obaid failed to advance into the final of the 200m event after he finished 15th among the 16 athletes in the semifinal heats with a time of 21.93 seconds. He came eighth in heat two, which was won by South Korea's Park Bong Go in a time of 20.91.

Chinese Taipei's Yang Chin Han later won the gold in a time of 20.66s. The 4x400m relay quartet had qualified for the final on Saturday after finishing third and overall fifth with a time of 3m:11.15s.
