Qatar- Turkey offers building materials for 2022 projects

The Ambassador of Turkey to Qatar, Fikret Ozer, has said that with his country's support, Qatar would not face any kind of shortage of any type of goods in future and Turkey would also supply construction materials for ongoing FIFA 2022 related or other mega projects.

'After some time, if Qatar needs construction material for ongoing FIFA2022 or other mega projects, Turkey will also meet these needs and can supply quality material, he said, adding that Turkey would always stand with Qatar to provide every kind of assistance.

He was talking to The Peninsula at the dinner hosted in honour of a delegation of Turkish businessmen by Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani, owner of Marakez Trading Company and Sheikh Suhaim bin Khalid Al Thani, partner and chairman of Marakez Trading Company. Sheikh Suhaim bin Khalid Al Thani also attended the banquet.

Fikret Ozer said that Turkey as country, as government had come forward to meet Qatar's needs particularly of food items immediately after three countries slapped sanctions on Qatar. 'The coordination between two countries and their companies was prompt and excellent. Food supplies reached Qatar within 48 hours of the imposition of restrictions by neighbouring countries, Ozer said. Expressing strong hope that this trade relationship would grow with every passing day, the ambassador said that the level of trade between two countries had touched new levels and 'this trading cooperation will continue growing with time.

The ambassador said that the recent supplies of food stuff from Turkey to Qatar were not just business deals rather 'the first and foremost factor working behind the activity was humanity. The ambassador said that Turkey could provide financial services to Qatar to facilitate imports to avert money transfer delays and related hiccups.

He said that after food stuff, construction material and pharmaceuticals would be the next items of export from Turkey to Qatar. He lauded Marakez Trading Company and its owners for their efforts to ensure supply of all edibles to Qatar and its residents after imposition of blockade by GCC countries.

Talking to The Peninsula, Feroz Moideen, CEO of Marakez Trading Company, said: 'We have discussed with the Turkish Businessmen Association the strategy on how the supply chain of food products, medical supplies and building material will take place.

He said that the Marakez Trading Company was the first from Qatar's private sector which delivered items within 48 hours from the start of the crisis to the local shelves. 'We have delivered around 450 tonnes of fresh milk, yogurt, chicken, juices and eggs to the market till today, he added.
