Experts say religious and educational organisations need to work together to understand the problems faced by youngsters. Sakina al Hosani, head of one of the voluntary teams said, 'It is very sad to hear of the occurrence of such incidents especially during Ramadan. Lack of employment and religious education are the reasons behind such incidents.'

Talal al Zahli, a private sector employee said such incidents are not common in Omani society. 'There could be many reasons due to which youth are resorting to crimes. However, it is the responsibility of parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children. Social media platforms too could play an active role in spreading awareness against crimes.' According to Idris al Feleity, a psychologist with the Ministry of Education said parental neglect could be a primary cause for such crimes.

'The youth can also be seen violating the traditional dress code. They were also driving an unauthorised motorcycle.' Feleity added that such acts can be curbed only if families, schools, religious and social organisations work together. 'The competent authorities should now take extra care to place these charity boxes in safer places.'
