Rabat - Spanish superclub Real Madrid is convinced that its key forward Cristiano Ronaldo is innocent following accusations of tax fraud by Spanish authorities.

According to sports outlet Goal, the club showed complete confidence in Ronaldo after prosecutors in Madrid filed a complaint against him. The footballer is accused of four crimes against the public treasury between 2011-2014, including tax fraud worth USD 65.5 million.

The player has been also accused of sending money to offshore companies located in the Virgin Islands.

GestiFute, a Portuguese company that represents both coaches and football players, issued a statement denying Spanish authorities' accusations: "there has never been concealment, or the slightest intention to conceal."

The company added that Ronaldo had "never had a tax problem," adding it was "clear that Ronaldo did not try to escape taxes."
