Oman- PDO organises SLCC workshop on investment opportunities


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), in association with the Centre of Studies and Economic Research, organised a workshop for SLCCs (Super Local Community Contractors) on Sunday focusing on the most promising investment opportunities in the various sectors of economic diversification in Oman.

The workshop was held at the Grand Millennium Hotel, Muscat, under the patronage of H E Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhi, Minister of Oil and Gas, and was attended by nearly 100 people.

Ahmed bin Said Kashob (Center of studies and Economic Research) welcomed the gathering, and Raoul Restucci, MD of Petroleum Development Oman, delivered the opening speech. Restucci noted that since 2012, PDO has awarded contracts worth more than RO320mn to various SLCCs, and has done significantly to develop the local communities in the concession areas.

The workshop aimed at promoting economic diversity highlighting lucrative investment opportunities in various sectors including tourism, manufacturing, renewable energy, logistics, mining and PDO industrial areas.

SLCCs held an exhibition and also presented their experiences in oil concession areas, as part of the workshop. The governmental efforts aimed at reaching the maximum benefits to local communities in the oil concession areas was also highlighted at the workshop.

The president of the Omani Economic Society, Dr Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, spoke about 'The Reality of the Omani Economy', while Ghalib Said al Maamari (from Tanfeedh) elaborated on the activities of the Implementation and Follow up unit at Tanfeedh.

Sheikh Hila bin Ghalib al Hinai, advisor to the Minister of Tourism, outlined the investment opportunities available in the tourism sector, while Eng Nahla bint Abd al Wahab al Hamidiya, director general of Industry at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, spoke about the investment opportunities in the manufacturing sector.

Dr Abdullah al Abri, ICV technical lead at the Petroleum Development Oman, presented the attractive investment opportunities in various renewable energy projects, while Khalfan bin Khamis al Khusaibi, ICV officer at Oman International Logistics Group, focused on the opportunities available for investors in the logistics sector.

Ibrahim bin Said al Maamari, ICV manager at Orpic, Dr Ali Salim al Rajhi, assistant general director of the Mining Authority, and Eng Amroo Ibrahim al Hinai, project lead – Industrial Estates at the Petroleum Development Oman, presented the investment opportunities in Orpic, mining sector and the industrial areas of PDO respectively.

The workshop concluded with a speech by Khalfan bin Salim al Busaidy, community development manager at the Petroleum Development Oman.
