Oman- Islamic Solidarity Games: Fatma to play for bronze medal


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Defending champion Fatma al Nabhani failed to reach the title round of the tennis event at the fourth Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, Azerbaijan on Sunday. The Omani star went down to higher-ranked Ayla Aksu of Turkey, losing 5-7, 1-6 in the semifinals.

The 21 year old Aksu, ranked No 293 in the world, will meet fellow countrymate Berfu Cengiz, ranked No 540, in the final after the latter stunned top-seeded Sabina Sharipova of Uzbekistan 6-4, 7-6 in the other semifinal clash.

Fatma, who is currently ranked No 426 in the world, now takes on Sabina, who is ranked No 139, in a bronze-medal playoff on Monday, the concluding day of the Games.
