ABU DHABI, 18th May, 2017 (WAM) -- UAE's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will join United States (US) President, Donald Trump, and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adel Al-Jubeir, next week as key participants in Tweeps 2017.

The interactive forum, hosted by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Philanthropic Foundation, MiSK, aims to connect young people interested in social media with some pioneers, to engage in a meaningful discussion on several topics and to share creative and positive ideas.

In a first for the region, President Donald Trump will address the forum and will be joined by senior politicians from the region. Senior executives from companies such as Facebook and Twitter will also speak about the impact of social media on religion and community resilience.

A group of social media activists and influencers, leaders, politicians, thought leaders and decision-makers will shed light on social media and counter-terrorism. They will discuss and evaluate the best strategies to utilise social media in educating and empowering young people to counter extremism, terrorism and radicalisation online.

Launched in 2013, the first Tweeps forum enabled young Saudi men and women to discuss their experiences in various fields.

The central theme of the forum is how to ensure that social media platforms strengthen counter-terrorism and counter-radicalisation.

"Countering terrorism and extremism are the most pressing issues of our age. Succeeding in this fight is one of the most important factors enabling human development and prosperity because the societies protected against these threats are far more likely to enjoy security, harmony and growth," organisers said.

Bader Al Asaker, Secretary-General of MiSK, said, "The foundation is committed to promoting the responsible use of social media, especially among young people. President Trump's attendance at the forum during his first foreign tour, together with other political and business leaders, shows the relevance of Tweeps. MiSK is honoured to be able to bring these leaders together with young people, to help facilitate dialogue that can lead to a more harmonious and secure future for us all."

He said that the MiSK Foundation is hosting Tweeps 2017 in Riyadh on 21st May.

"The event, which coincides with three major summits the Saudi Arabia and the US Summit, the Gulf Cooperation Council and the US Summit and the Arab Islamic American Summit in Riyadh, brings political, business, NGO, academic and sports leaders together with young people to discuss how social media platforms can empower people against extremism and terrorism," he added.
