Manama, 16th May, 2017 (WAM) -- A high-level delegation representing the World Health Organisation, WHO, yesterday started a three-day visit to Bahrain to be updated about the state's prevention of non-communicable chronic diseases.
Receiving the delegation, Bahraini Health Minister, Faeqa bint Said Al-Saleh, said that the government gives the priority to promoting prevention of non-communicable chronic diseases as part of its efforts to attain sustainable development goals in Bahrain. She also stressed the importance of the visit which, she said, would contribute to enhancing medical services, paying tribute to the Bahraini Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, for his directives to develop the health sector.
The five-member delegation will pay visits to the Ministry of Information Affairs, the Ministry of Labour and Social Development, the Supreme Council for Health, the Supreme Council for the Environment, the Shura Council, and the Council of Representatives. Meetings will also be held with governorates, municipal councils, hospitals and non-governmental parties, focusing on efforts to combat non-communicable diseases in Bahrain.
Officials representing the United National Development Programme, UNDP, and the UN Environment Programme, UNEP, are also taking part in the visit which concludes on Wednesday.
