Kuwait- EU welcomes Tunisia's role in resolving Libyan crisis

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, May 11 (KUNA) -- The European Union and Tunisia exchanged views at a high level in Brussels Thursday on regional issues of common interest, in particular the situation in Libya.

The EU welcomed Tunisia's important role in seeking a resolution to the Libyan conflict, and in particular supported the initiative launched by the President of Tunisia for a comprehensive and inclusive political solution to the Libyan crisis, said a joint-declaration released after an EU-Tunisian foreign ministerial meeting, known as the Association Council.

The EU and Tunisia emphasised the progress achieved in their bilateral cooperation in the field of security and the fight against terrorism.

Today's meeting provided an opportunity to review the development of relations between Tunisia and the EU within the framework of the Privileged Partnership. These relations have gained new momentum, said the declaration.

Noting the opportunities and challenges posed by migration, the two sides reiterated their wish to define together a common vision for the proper management of migration flows.

Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, George Vella, Maltese Minister for Foreign Affairs, said "our meeting today was extremely rich, it is reflected the depth of our relation. Tunisia is a privilege partner for the EU. We acknowledge that Tunisia considers the EU as a privilege partner as well." Malta holds the current EU Presidency.

On his part, Tunisian foreign minister Khemaies Jhinaoui told the joint press conference that "we have had a fruitful exchange of views on regional and international issues, such as the crisis in Libya, the fight against terrorism and immigration." At the sidelines of the meeting, EU and Tunisia signed two agreements today to boost cooperation in the field of youth and culture. (end) nk.ibi
