Morocco- Moroccan Salafi Abou Hafs Defends Inheritance Equality


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Rabat – After receiving harsh criticism for defending gender equality in inheritance in Islam, former Salafi detainee Mohamed Abdelouahab Rafiki, better known as Abou Hafs, has publicly explained his philosophy on life.

Abou Hafs, who was previously jailed because of his connection with the 2003 Casablanca terror attacks, took to his Facebook page on Friday to defend his his support for inheritance equality..

Abou Hafs' position to open a dialogue on the issue of gender inheritance equality had prompted several preachers to criticize him, including Moroccan Salafi sheikhs Abdelhamid Abounaim and Hassan Kettani. It also prompted his dismissal from Association of Arab Maghreb Scholars.

Abou Hafs, who has approximately 25,000 followers in addition to his 5000 Facebook friends, stressed that he was simply expressing the truth.

%E2%80%9CI don't like to write something that I don't feel, just to receive many likes or comments,%E2%80%9D he wrote. %E2%80%9CMark Zuckerberg, the United Nations, Abounaim, Kettani, and I – we will all die and the truth will [eternally] remain.%E2%80%9D

%E2%80%9CI hate to play the role of an immaculate Saint [or] a preacher, [and I am making] many mistakes and slips,%E2%80%9D he continued. %E2%80%9CI love to be me. Take me with my strength and weakness – with my qualities and slips…%E2%80%9D

Abou Hafs, who recently contributed along with 100 well-known Moroccan public figures to the publication of a book entitled %E2%80%9CMen Defend Inheritance Equality%E2%80%9D, went on to add that his goal in life is to search on the truth and seek it.

%E2%80%9CI might hit the target or miss it, but it is a continuous journey,%E2%80%9D he wrote.
