(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, April 24: Several important rulings were issued by various courts on Monday, April 24. The Court of Cassation adjourned to May 15 the issuance of its verdict on the case filed against the so-called 'Fintas Group'. The court also upheld the verdict issued by the Court of Appeals against Othman Al-Khamees who was accused of violating the national unity law.
Meanwhile, the Court of Appeals upheld the acquittal of the Head of Chief of Oil Workers Union Sheikh Malik Al-Humoud, Saif Al-Qahtani, and Chairman of Kuwait Oil Company Labor Union Salah Al-Marzouq from charges of attributing statements to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait during the oil sector's strike last year. In addition, the Court of Appeals set May 10th session for the trial of the case filed against 70 citizens including nine former MPs who were accused of storming the National Assembly building. The court also upheld the nullification of the Al-Sadiq Cooperative Society's elections.
Concerning the 'Fintas Group' case, the Court of Cassation, which was presided over by Judge Abdullah Al-Jassem, rejected the request for suspension of the sentence issued by the Court of Appeals because the defendant did not appear before the court. It also refused to release one of the suspects Saud Al-Asfour on bail. Representing Al-Asfour during the trial was Lawyer Khaled Al-Zuweir, who highlighted the partial lack of jurisdiction of the court in handling the case related to the misdemeanor charges leveled against his client. He requested the court for some time for his other clients to present themselves before the court, as they are currently outside the country for medical purposes.
