Jordan- FM, German counterpart hold talks

Amman, April 24 (Petra)--Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi held talks in Amman on Monday, with German Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel that focused on means to forge closer bilateral ties, and efforts to end the stalemate in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, and reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.



The two ministers stressed the importance of arriving at a political solution in Syria that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people. They also agreed that fighting terrorism and its gangs is a priority.



In a joint press conference following the talks, Safadi described Jordanian-German ties as distinguished and voiced appreciation for Germany's continued support to Jordan, especially in implementing developmental and infrastructure projects as well as providing services to the refugees.



He said a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is a condition to achieve security and stability in the region, adding that terrorists will use the injustice to inject the sense of extremism and hatred.



The German minister for his part praised the strong ties between Jordan and Germany as well as Jordan's pivotal role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East.



He stressed the need to achieve a ceasefire in Syria and start political negotiations to end the conflict in the country.



The minister highlighted the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state, reaching a political understanding on Jerusalem and supporting the Palestinian economy.
