Oman- Not Alone campaign on mental health concludes in Salalah


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Following the success of its awareness campaigns in five cities, H H Sayyida Basma al Said and her team of psychologists and volunteers concluded their campaign in Salalah.

The campaign titled, Not Alone, is being held by Whispers of Serenity Clinic to spread mental health awareness around the sultanate since 2014.

Along with its aim of targeting more people this year, the convoy also intends on shedding light on many of Oman's tourist attractions, stated a press release.

Sayyida Basma, a mental health consultant and owner of Whispers of Serenity Clinic led the panel of experts which also included, Dr Amira al Raidan, head of Mental Health Department at the Ministry of Health, Sayyida Taghreed al Said, assistant professor at Sultan Qaboos University's Department of Education and owner of My book & Me, an edutainment centre for children, as well as Sayyida Maya al Said, life coach and prominent social media influencer and blogger.

The panel of experts discussed the importance of seeking professional help and clarified the common misconceptions surrounding mental health and prescribed medication.

In the first session, volunteer Deena Shahrabani gave a talk on depression and the importance of acceptance and communication, while the second session focused on children and the correct methods of discipline, with a talk by volunteer Safiya Adam on motherhood and its added responsibility.

The final event of the year will be held on May 20 at Majan Hall in Al Bustan Palace Hotel where a video covering the whole convoy, together with some inspirational speakers will be screened.
