Doha: The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani visited a life sized mock-ups of the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram trains. The Emir was given an explanation by Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) about the state-of-the-art technology used in both trains, as well as their unique interior and exterior design, safety features and services future users can expect.
The life-sized mock-up of the stations includes mock-ups of the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram trains.
The designs of the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram trains are an embodiment of Qatari heritage and culture combined with state-of-the-art technology.
Doha Metro is one of the fastest driverless trains in the world and will be the fastest in the region; able to reach 100 km per hour.
In total, 75 trains consisting of three cars, one of which will be for Gold and Family Class and two for Standard class will be delivered to Doha Metro: Gold will have 16 seats, family 26 seats and standard 88 seats.

Designed and built to world-class standards of modernity and innovation, they remain deeply rooted in the country's history and community. Their dynamic shape represents the perfect symbol of intelligence and speed.
The front end of the vehicle and its lines define a shape that is powerful yet elegant, while the windows are inspired by the slender eyes of local wildlife. The design is custom made for the Doha Metro project and the interior is inspired by the progressive architecture present in Doha skyline, once again combining traditional and modern elements.
Lusail Tram

While, the Lusail Tram design concept is focused on the sea representing dhow pearl fishing and bringing in the calm, cool, elegant and tranquil elements of that medium to the design. Lusail Tram will travel at a speed of 60 km per hour. In total, 28 trains consisting of five carriages split in two - one for families and one for general commuters. The family carriages have 24 seats, 16 are fixed and eight are foldable.

For the regular carriages, there are 40 seats, 32 are fixed and eight foldable, giving a total 64 seats. Each carriage has a space for wheelchair users and there are screens on exterior walls giving details about the journey as well as entertainment. External screens are also fitted to the front, back and sides of the trains allowing awaiting passengers to see the next destination.
The one of a kind design of the Doha Metro stations revolves around a contemporary ‘vaulted space' concept; a concept that reflects on the heritage of the region by introducing open spaces that mimic traditional Bedouin tents. The design also uses ornamentations that shed light on the aesthetic elements and foundations of dynamic lighting and ventilation systems.
The station mock-up brings to life the tribute that the Doha Metro station designs pay to Qatari heritage through the use of traditional elements of Islamic and local art and ‘pearl-effect' interiors.
The first phase of the Doha Metro is expected to be complete in 2020, when the project's 37 metro stations are expected to be operative, with an average journey time of two minutes between adjacent stations.
