TUNIS, April 14 (KUNA) -- For the second day in a row, the Kuwaiti disabled athletics team on Friday continued bagging medals at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Tunis City.
Kuwaiti athlete Youssef Al-Harbi won the gold medal in the long jump, Nawaf Al-Shemmeri got the gold in the javelin, his brother Nayef obtained the silver in the same contest and Abdullah Al-Fadhli won the bronze in the 200 meters race.
Faisal Al-Rajhi won the silver medal in the 100 meters t54-category event, while Fahad Al-Mowaizri got the silver in the 100 meters in t52 category.
Kuwait's Ambassador to Tunisia Ali Al-Dhefeeri lauded performance of athletes who could bag more medals at this event.
In a statement to KUNA, the ambassador stressed that Kuwait's political leadership is paying much attention to, and caring for, the disabled in order to integrate them into the society.
As a result of this care, Kuwait was a first country in the region that established the Supreme Council for Disabled Affairs and the Public Authority for The Disabled.
Meanwhile, head of Kuwaiti delegation Rashed Al-Hujailan expressed his hope that the team would bag more medals at the grand prix to qualify for the World Para Athletics Championship to be hosted by London next July.
He said Tunisia's event is a major one on international level, referring that any team needs 10 gold medals to cruise into the World Para Athletics Championship.
The three-day event kicked off Thursday with the participation of nearly 300 male and female athletes from 19 countries. Some 12 Kuwaiti athletes are taking part in the competition. (end) khs.hm
