TUNIS, March 31 (KUNA) -- A visiting delegation of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) discussed Friday the possible financing of a variety of development projects in Tunisia, mainly hospitals, roads and farming.
The discussions were attended by KFAED Operation Chief Marawan Al-Ghanim and KFAED Regional Manager for Arab Countries Abdullah Al-Sager and the Tunisian ministers of agriculture and health.
Kuwaiti Ambassador to Tunisia Ali Al-Dhfairi and several other Tunisian officials were present at the meetings.
Speaking to KUNA following the meetings, Al-Ghanim said the KFAED's initiative is part of a five-year USD 500-million pledge made by the State of Kuwait during an international conference held in Tunis in November 2016 to support Tunisian economic and investment.
He said the KFAED would look into a bunch of development projects offered by Tunisian officials during today's talks; primarily the building of four hospitals and completion of a main road in the Tunisian capital.
He recalled that the Kuwaiti fund launched its activities in Tunisia in the 1960, and has ever since funded 34 development projects.
On his part, Al-Sager said the talks with Tunisian officials had focused on existing cooperation between the KFAED and Tunisia, and on how the fund can help in the implementation of fresh development projects in this Arab country.
Describing Tunisia as a major Arab beneficiary of Kuwaiti development aid, the KFAED's official said that his fund would bankroll a number of health and agricultural development projects in Tunisia.
Kuwaiti Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh had pledged during an international conference held in Tunis in November 2016 that his country would extend a five-year 500-million loan to Tunisia in order to revitalize its ailing economy. (end) ksj.mt
