ABU DHABI, 25th March, 2017 (WAM)-- The Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit, set to begin on 27th March in the UAE capital, provides the UAE with a political platform to build global alliances to achieve strategic goals in the industrial sector, according to Chairman of the Department of Economic Development–Abu Dhabi, ADDED, Ali Majid Al Mansouri.

"With its global partnerships with the world's leading industrial organisations, the GMIS will give the UAE a unique opportunity to benefit from this network in its internal and external industrial investments while also providing a platform for the UAE to consolidate its global role in leading the 4IR (fourth industrial revolution) applications and exporting them worldwide," he said.

The GMIS, he noted, is also a real opportunity to brief world industry leaders on the trends and policies followed by the government of the emirate of Abu Dhabi towards a globally competitive industrial economy in the emirate.

The global summit, he said, will also provide the UAE with an opportunity to achieve the highest level of connectivity and coordination with world countries and global firms in terms of industrial activities, so that each emirate can benefit from the capabilities and competencies of other emirates in a well-aligned effort to achieve economic integration.

"The wise insight of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for developing the aspects of an independent UAE economy was reflected in the solid foundations and strong pillars laid for the post-oil economy to with a focus on sectors that are based on technology and innovation, thus achieving sustainable economic development."

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the four-day summit is expected to receive over 1,200 delegates comprising government leaders, c-suite executives, policymakers, academics, and industry representatives from all over the world who will discuss how best to shape the future of the sector.

The GMIS will take place at the Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi from 27 to 30 March, 2017. It will be co-hosted by the UAE Ministry of Economy, ADDED, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, in collaboration with the Global Agenda Council on the Future of Manufacturing of the World Economic Forum.

Al Mansouri went on to day that the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 came to embody this wise vision of His Highness the President as it sets the strategic goals and guidelines that target a number of sectors, most important of which is the industrial sector.

"The summit aims to achieve the objectives of sustainable industrial development, especially in terms of comprehensive and sustainable industrialisation. To this end, the GMIS will formulate a future vision for the industrial sector."

Six teams and eight industry groups were formed to categorise the summit outputs in a way that will help Abu Dhabi's transformation to the fourth industrial revolution (4IR), Al Mansouri said.

Khalifa Al Mansouri, Acting Undersecretary at Department of Economic Development–Abu Dhabi, will deliver a key note speech at the summit, outlining the policies and directives of the government of Abu Dhabi to achieve sustainable economic development by focusing on the development of the industrial sector as a key enabler of other non-oil sectors in the emirate.
