Oman- Kalabhavan to introduce Muslim folk arts of Kerala


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Kalabhavan School of Music & Arts, a franchisee of Kochin Kalabhavan of Kerala, will be providing a golden opportunity for students in Muscat to learn Oppana, Duffmuttu, Kolkali, Vattappattu and Arabana muttu. These are some of the traditional Muslim folk arts of Kerala, mainly of the north Malabar region.

The art forms of the Muslim community of North Kerala have their own unique charm and charisma. Among the several art forms of the Muslims of Kerala, theArabana Muttu,Duffmuttu,KolkaliandOppanaare the most popular. The trainer, Mohammed Nisar Avala, is a highly experienced trainer for teaching traditional Muslim folk arts. He was the district president of Mappila Kala Pariseelaka Sangham, Kozhikode. He has trained students for various state level competitions and school youth festivals.

Oppanais a popular form of social entertainment among theKerala Muslim community. Oppana is a song and dance performance. Kolkaliis a folk art performed inNorth Malabar. Kolkali is now a popular event in Kerala School Kalolsavam, which is considered as the biggest cultural event of Asia. Students interested in learning these forms can contact Kalabhavan on 93599315.
