A much awaited sporting event of Sri Lankan community in Qatar, the second edition of ‘OZEE Soccer Sevens 2017' — Sri Lankan Community Football Tournament, will be held on March 24 at International School of London, Duhail.
It will start at 7am with the participation of 28 prominent Sri Lankan football teams in Qatar.
The tournament's official draw and press brief was successfully held on March 17, at Plaza Inn Hotel, Doha with the presence of participating team captains, event sponsors and organising committee members.
The registered 28 teams have been grouped into seven through an open draw. Seven players will be there on a side and it's short format of football game, which is widely popular among Sri Lankans football lovers.
The event Gold sponsor is Gulf Agency Company (GAC) Qatar which one of the country's leading providers of integrated shipping and logistics services and the event is organized by Zahira College Colombo, Old Boys' Association Qatar (ZOBAQ) which was formed in 2009 in order to gather all past students under one umbrella to assist their Alma mater in being among the best educational institutes in Sri Lanka and to foster social interaction among old boys' of the college as well as Sri Lankans residing in Qatar. The association is affiliated to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Qatar.
According to the organizing committee, the main objective of this event is to create fellowship and to promote football among Sri Lankans residing in Qatar. In addition to the football games, ‘OZEE Fan Zone' will be available at the venue which includes OZEE Boutique, kids' activities, face painting, game stalls, photo shooting booth and a henna stall. Further, they are confident that ‘OZEE Soccer Sevens 2017' will be a great success among Sri Lankans in Qatar and urges all Sri Lankans in Qatar to participate with their families to make this event a success.
