(MENAFN- Arab Times) Winners celebrate on the podium with officials during the His Highness the Amir sixth Shooting Grand Prix awarding ceremony.
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: Kuwait's national shooting team continues to dominate majority of the competitions in the ongoing His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sixth Shooting Grand Prix, which kicked off last Saturday at Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Shooting International Olympics Complex. More than 650 sharpshooters from 46 countries are participating in the event.
Kuwait's national team bagged more gold medals after the women's team took top place in the skeet category, followed by Qatar's skeet team in second place and the Bahraini team in third place. In the men's 10-meters air rifle competition, the Saudi team bagged the gold medal after defeating the Omani team which took silver while the Jordanian team took the bronze.
In the individual men's 10-meter air rifle competition, Atta Al-Enezi from Saudi Arabia won the gold medal with a score of 197.5 points, defeating his compatriot Sofor Al-Dousari who won the silver by scoring 196.8. The bronze medal went to Alaa bin Ali from Tunisia, who managed to score 175 points.
Bahraini sharpshooter Maryam Hassani increased the number of gold medals bagged by Bahrain after coming first in the individual skeet competition, defeating Kuwaiti Eman Al-Shamma' who took the silver medal while Qatari Reem Al-Sherbini took the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sixth Shooting Grand Prix will conclude its activities today with two competitions which are considered the toughest and most challenging of all — the double trap (150 targets) for men, and 50-meter rifle prone position for men.
At the end of the fourth day of the tournament, Kuwait still remains on the top of the medals table with 14 points (6 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze).
In second place is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with seven points (4 gold, 2 silver and bronze). Qatar is in third place with eight points as well (1 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze) followed by Bahrain in fifth place with five medals (3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze), Morocco and Egypt sharing sixth place with one gold each, Lebanon in seventh place with two silver medals, Oman in eighth place with 2 silver and 4 bronze medals and Iraq in ninth place with 1 silver while Jordan, Tunisia and United Arab Emirates share the tenth place with a bronze medal each.
In her role, Kuwaiti skeet gold medalist Afrah Hussein attributed her win and that of her colleagues to the huge support they receive from the shooting club, as well as the competence of the training crew which have always been there to guide, motivate and polish the skills required to win such major events.
Regarding the tournament, Hussein said its popularity has been growing year after year, and it has become a reputable event in the entire region. She particularly commended the level of organization of the tournament.
Head of Iraqi Shooting Association and Head of Iraqi shooting delegation Zahed Nouri said the His Highness the Amir's championship is that of every Arab and boasts of distinction and success in terms of the high-level of international organization and technical aspects, let alone the top-class arbitrators.
In addition, Moroccan sharpshooter Yasmin Abdulaziz expressed her jubilation over her participation in the championship, affirming her keenness to participate in future tournaments in the future.
